Yannick van der Wende

Yannick van der Wende

Yannick calls himself "a Scrum Master with a heart for developers," which makes sense as he was a software developer for over 10 years. He worked for various companies, big and small, local and international, creating solutions for customers. After witnessing many poor Agile implementations that made developers' lives difficult, Yannick decided to become a Scrum Master. He believed there had to be a better life for developers!

With his ADHD-fuelled energy, Yannick is transforming teams and organisations. His focus on work happiness, psychological safety and(neurodiverse) inclusivity, fosters creativity and innovation, paving the way for a brighter future for all Developers.

Native from a small south Caribbean island, passionate about good music and good food, Jonathan was convinced that he would have followed his dreams. Instead of being a chef in a starred restaurant on a paradise island, or being the sound engineer for several major international artists in a large studio in L.A., he finally preferred to take the red pill from the hands of Morpheus in order to fight in the Matrix.
Fervent defender of Neo, he first started with Mouse as a web developer. Following many updates, and more than 15 years of hard fighting, he is now in control of the Oracle as PO/PM and Product Coach to better guide this small team.

VP of Engineering at EMBURSE / CTO at Captio

I'm VP of Engineering at Emburse a large US-based fintech and CTO at Captio (part of the Emburse group). My goal is to transform the product & engineering culture in the whole company while building and scaling the European Hub in Europe.

Previous to that, I've been Head of the new Bumble (Badoo) Hub in Spain, leading the team's construction, growth and improvement and developing its culture and operation model with maximum focus on scalability and product innovation.

For more than 20 years in the digital sector, I have done a lot of different things with multiple roles: from founding my own software company or helping other companies around the world in their tech and organisational transformation, building and growing large product & engineering teams or being CTO for many years in successful scale-ups like Tiendeo.

I love challenging myself and my teams and my favourite way to do this is based on freedom of action but with a strong alignment with practical OKR. After some years I realised we needed another approach, after seeing the same problems and wrong and theoretical approaches too many times: we call it LEAN OKR.

While using it, as well as other Agile practices, with my product & engineering teams, I love teaching this and other topics in many different academies, universities, and events like ESADE, GeeksHub, and others. In 2019 I was part of the CAS19 organization team in Barcelona.

I had a curious start at the university in my first year of Medicine. I changed majors and ended up studying Industrial Engineering at the UPC in Barcelona.

When I finished I started directly in the world of ERP (Ax2009, AX2012...) but having the luck of being able to combine ERP tasks with tasks from other areas such as BI and systems.

Right now I run the technical department of the company where I work and I have the great opportunity to teach and help my colleagues grow in the same way that they did with me at the time. It is a very beautiful feeling that accompanies me every day and that I see rewarded every time they see that they have taken a "little step" alone.
