I live in The Hague (NL) with my partner and two sons, and have over 30 years of IT experience. Primarily, I've worked as a Consultant, Solution Architect, or Business Consultant. Since Microsoft launched SharePoint Server 2001, I’ve specialized in Microsoft Information Worker solutions, but started with IBM Lotus Notes/Domino in the late '90s.

Transitioning to Microsoft platforms was a natural step, and I've focused on on-premises and cloud collaboration solutions for over twenty years. I've contributed to books like “Collaboration in the Cloud” and “TeamPark”, and always consider compliance, security, identity, and device management as integral parts of any solution. My expertise is strongest in Microsoft 365 and especially in Microsoft Purview, but also includes extending these solutions to non-Microsoft environments. I've advised a hospital on Azure IaaS compliance and have significant technical and functional experience across various projects.

In my career, ensuring regulatory compliance and improving cloud security for large organizations have been key achievements. I have developed security templates and blueprints for information protection, addressing the needs of multiple governments and organizations.

Promoting Governance, Compliance, and Risk (GCR) within the Microsoft 365 cloud has been a priority, often through organizing events and creating content that bridges IT and business needs. I am planning to publish a book on eDiscovery in the Microsoft cloud, aiming to clarify this complex platform. Besides Microsoft 365, I've addressed multi-cloud guidelines involving Azure and AWS, showcasing a broader security document for a regional government.

I've been honored to be a Microsoft MVP (Microsoft 365 and Security) for eight years, having shared my insights at numerous international conferences. My blog (alberthoitingh.com) serves as a platform for my thoughts on Microsoft cloud technology and GCR.
At this moment I'm one of the architects at the Microsoft Innovation Hub in The Netherlands, working on Modern Work and Copilot.
